We would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts – without you, our work for the Amazon in Peru would not be possible. Thanks to your donations, we have been able to achieve a great deal in recent months:
New tree nursery & reforestation
With the help of two volunteers from Germany, we have set up a small tree nursery and planted the first 100 trees on a previously destroyed area. Our ranger is now making sure that the young trees are protected against the invasive grass and have a real chance of reclaiming the forest.
Scientific discoveries
The volunteers made numerous animal observations, including a coral otter (Micrurus) and a previously unknown species of frog – possibly the fourth undescribed species in our forest area! Such discoveries show how unique and valuable this ecosystem is.
Protection from loggers
Recently, loggers tried to persuade our neighbors to sell their land. To our delight, some neighbors also said “no” out of conviction. This raises an important awareness of nature conservation in the region.
New infrastructure
Our ranger station will soon be equipped with a solar power system. It will make us independent of the generator and enable us to store samples for DNA analysis in a professional manner – a major step for scientific work on site.
Looking ahead
We are now on the verge of purchasing another forest parcel. This will secure permanently threatened areas and make it increasingly unattractive for loggers to build infrastructure here. A research team from the University of Rostock will also be arriving in November to make further discoveries in the rainforest.
