Our school projects
Environmental protection means education. And this could hardly be more important than for the future of tomorrow, our children!
…The children’s eyes light up as we talk about the tropical and humid climate in the rainforest, its conservation and the animals we encounter on our path through the forest. In the course of the story, a student asks excitedly: “Can’t we just save the entire Amazon?” The children react emotionally to the topic. Even more emotional when we show the results of deforestation…

We often have the feeling that children are more aware of the topic of environmental protection than adults and view it with stronger emotions. A child quickly asks us: “And how can we help?”
This was a small excerpt from a project day that we carried out together with a 3rd grade class. We quickly realize how important it is to confront climate change with our “youngest”. That is why we at Plant for Future have decided to carry out regular projects in schools to pass on our knowledge in theory and practice. Kim Langberg, is our school representative and a passionate primary school teacher herself. She is adept at writing framework plans for lessons so that teaching staff can integrate the topic of environmental protection appropriately into their lessons.
Every picture saves rainforest!
When we from Plant for Future set off on a 3-week excursion to our already protected rainforest areas in Amazonia in March 2022, none of us had any idea what a far-reaching project it would become. Also on board, friend, staunch supporter and now also founding member of Plant for Future Rostock e.V., “Marteria”!
As part of this trip, we discovered a special place on earth, the home of the fantastic tree tiger. A thumbnail-sized poison dart frog in blue-white-red colors with the technical name “Ranitomeya Fantastica “True Nominat”.
Find out more about this little frog, which is in no way inferior to the colorfulness of a macaw.
We collected a lot of video material and in the end the documentary with Marteria was created: “The Amazon Job – the forest is not enough”, as well as his song “Wald”, which Marten wrote on this trip.
Find out more about Marteria and Plant for Future.
The documentary and the song were premiered with the Norddeutsche Philharmonie at the Volkstheater in Rostock with 3 performances. The first of these 3 performances, which was reserved exclusively for children and young people, is particularly memorable. Around 500 children from various schools in Rostock and the district were present and enthusiastically took part in the Q&A session that followed. Here it became clear that the children and young people also have a great need to support the project and thus the preservation of the fantastic Baumsteiger.

We decided to hold an art competition for the different class levels. Thanks to a sponsor such as Warnowkran Kranservice GmbH, €5 was donated to the project of our non-profit association for every picture submitted. As an additional motivation, the best works from each school were exhibited at the KTC Rostock, which made even more people aware of the topic of environmental and species protection.

The themes of the art competition were chosen so that they could be implemented in accordance with the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern framework plan. This meant that no valuable teaching time was “lost”. Rather, the project could be seen as a new opportunity to meet the challenges of our time with the help of various artistic strategies. At the same time, art-historical focuses, such as the Expressionist era or contemporary art, could become the subject of the lessons. This enabled the children and young people to engage with various artists and works of art and learn “that art, in its diverse manifestations, is always a reflection of individual, social and historical conditions.”

Based on this, the pupils create a current reflection of the times. In this way, they train their communicative and creative skills, which can be deepened in further, interdisciplinary projects if required. In addition, the children and young people are taught an important lesson: Every picture and therefore every single contribution counts! – This is an idea that needs to be internalized, especially in today’s world, in order to counteract the consequences of the environmental crisis. This requires children and young people to be educated.
Eight schools from Rostock and the district took part in the art competition with their different class levels. A total of 481 works were collected, the “best” of which were exhibited in a suitable setting at the KTC in Rostock.
Enthusiastic about this great project, the results and above all the commitment of the pupils, Warnowkran doubled its usual donation of €2405 to €5000. We would like to thank everyone involved for their help! The entire donation went towards the purchase of primary rainforest in Peru to safeguard the forest population of the endangered poison dart frog “Ranitomeya Fantastica “True Nominat “.

Project day with the sponsored class from Neubrandenburg’s municipal utility company
In June 2023, we visited our partner “Die Stadtwerke Neubrandenburg” and held a project day on the topic of “Our precious forests – The causes and consequences of deforestatioa – What can I do?” with their sponsor school class from the elementary school “Uns Hüsung” class 3c.
And they provide valuable services for people. However, harmful influences on the forest are a constant cause for concern. And from a human perspective, there are various demands on the forest that are not easy to reconcile.”

The topic of “forests” was appropriately integrated into the lessons of the class “Uns Hüsung” 3c in the form of a project day. The “Plant for Future Rostock e.V.” nature conservation association of the Hanseatic city of Rostock is committed to the international protection of nature and the environment. The foundation has its origins in the realization that both human behaviour and our own lifestyle are responsible for environmental damage. Through the association, we want to draw attention to the grievances, bring about changes in behavior and give nature back to the earth. It is therefore in the interest of Neubrandenburger Stadtwerke and its cooperation partner, Plant For Future, to bring sustainability and environmental awareness closer to the youngest members of our society and to draw attention to this topic of the future and the current shortcomings in national and international politics through an instructive lesson plan.

Finally, we planted a sponsor tree together. A swamp ak. To ensure that the roots grow optimally, we have provided the tree with a watering bag that is refilled with water every two days and constantly supplies the roots with moisture. We would like to thank our partner Die Stadtwerke Neubrandenburg for the great cooperation and the students for their interest and active support.
